Grand jury probing corruption to release report

JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) - A grand jury has released a report blasting some elected officials and county employees in Clayton County, just south of Atlanta.

The report, filed Tuesday afternoon, came more than two years after Clayton Superior Court Judge Matthew Simmons ordered two dozen residents to look into possible corruption in city and county government.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/19SjaJX) obtained portions of the report after parts of it were shared in advance with agencies coming under criticism.

The report accuses some officials of abusing their powers and using their positions to help themselves, their relatives and their friends.

This special grand jury lacked authority to bring indictments. However, District Attorney Tracy Graham Lawson said there are ongoing criminal investigations related to the grand jury's work.
