Bakeries And Restaurants Give Free Food To Furloughed Workers

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON, D.C. -

There was a showing of support for government workers forced to stay home, unpaid, because of the government shutdown. A number of bakeries and restaurants in Washington, DC are giving free food to furloughed workers.

And the folks who came to Sprinkles, a cupcake place in DC, are grateful.

"I think it's great. I think it's great to get empathy, the support from other business because it's been rough. Everybody's going through something so to have people who stay in our corner and get that support is a really good thing," Joel Patton, a government worker says.

"This is only the first day, but I kind of wish it didn't have to happen, but I'm believing that it's going to be short-lived," said Esperanca Cardoso

"You really want to know what... I think of Congress right now? Honestly, I think they need to get their act together and stop acting like children and pass the budget," Michelle Williams, another government worker.

About a million federal workers across the country are furloughed because of the government shutdown.
