Vince Lombardi tribute at St. Francis Prep in Queens

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A capacity crowd filled the auditorium at St. Francis Preparatory School in Queens -- a large presence to honor an even larger family member. Legendary NFL coach Vince Lombardi was honored at his high school Alma mater.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame and Allstate Insurance teamed up to recognize the New York native as part of an ongoing special program called "Hometown Hall of Famers."

Lombardi's storied career is one for the ages. After leaving the New York Giants as offensive coordinator, he became the head coach of the struggling Green Bay Packers in 1959. And the rest they say is history. Lombardi never had a losing season in his career. His team won the very first Super Bowl, which they repeated a year later.

Vince Lombardi died in 1970. John Lombardi represented the family at the unveiling of this plaque memorializing his grandfather.

And perhaps the biggest testament to Vince Lombardi's legacy is that the trophy given to the team that wins the Super bowl each year was renamed in his honor.

The Lombardi family has decided to let the plaque stay here at St. Francis Prep. They hope it will inspire future generations.

A Delta Air Lines flight from La Guardia Airport to West Palm Beach, Florida, was diverted to Jacksonville because of a dispute between passengers over a reclining seat. Delta reportedly says the flight was diverted Monday night when a woman got into an argument with a passenger behind her when the woman was trying to recline her seat while the other passenger was trying to sleep on the tray table.

New York City subway riders are getting back service on the G train between Brooklyn and Queens. The return of service comes as the Metropolitan Transportation Authority reopens a tunnel Tuesday that was heavily damaged by Superstorm Sandy. The Greenpoint tunnel has been closed for five weeks for repairs. Shuttle buses were provided between G stops in Queens and Brooklyn during that time.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
