State police shut down I-75 north between Livernois and Clark Tuesday evening looking for evidence surrounding a bullet-riddled van. Drivers were rerouted to the service drive.
One truck driver tells us he was stuck in traffic for more than two hours.

It all started around 4:30 p.m. in the midst of rush hour and just before the Tigers game, Michigan State Police say a man and woman in a van were being chased by men in another vehicle. The men in the other vehicle followed the van onto the freeway and began to fire shots.

One of the bullets hit the female passenger in the leg. The driver lost control and slammed into the median. No one else on the road was struck by a bullet and no one was injured after the van hit the median. The female passenger was transported to the hospital and is expected to recover.

"They're just randomly firing shots, we're lucky that someone else didn't get hit on the other side of the freeway," Lt. Michael Shaw of Michigan State Police tells Fox 2's Alexis Wiley.

Michigan State Police won't comment on a motive but they do believe this was not a random attack. The victim and her boyfriend were able to provide a clear description of the shooter and his vehicle. Police sources say the woman told investigators this may be linked to a love triangle.

Shaw says the woman suffered non-life threatening injuries and is scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday.
