'Baby Hope' identified

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The body of a girl who was found stuffed in a cooler along the side of the Henry Hudson Parkway in 1991 has been identified.

The real name of ‘Baby Hope’ was Angelica Ramirez, reported the NY Post.

A tipster who knew the girl’s sister contacted investigators after sketches were re-released in July on the 22nd anniversary of her disappearance.

The identification was made after police used DNA to confirm Ramirez was related to the woman said to be the sister and her mother.

Ramirez who was between three and five years old when she was killed was also sexually assaulted.

The mother reportedly told police she was afraid to come forward because she feared her abusive husband who later fled to Mexico.

Her body was exhumed in 2007 for DNA testing, but none could be extracted because of its poor condition. After a second attempt was made in 2011 using better technology on bone material, a DNA profile was developed, police said Tuesday.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
