Rochelle Aytes: There Wouldn't Be A TLC Without Pebbles

Posted: Updated:

"There wouldn't be a TLC without Pebbles," says Rochelle Aytes about the real-life record promoter and manager (Perri "Pebbles" Reid) she plays in the new VH1 movie, "CrazySexyCool:  The TLC Story."

Rochelle co-stars in the movie with with Lil Mama, KeKe Palmer, and Drew Sidora.

The film, which until recently was known as "TLC Biotop," tells the story of TLC's rise to fame in the 1990s and how they became big stars and with songs including "Waterfalls" and "Creep."

The movie depicts not only the good times, but also the tumultuous relationship TLC had with Pebbles, who discovered the R&B trio in 1989.   After selling 11 million copies of their 1994 album CrazySexyCool, TLC filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy, amid claims that Pebbles was mismanaging their money.

"I felt that it was very important to bring dignity to this role. She [Pebbles] is a human being. It's not like playing someone that you can just make up," Aytes told  "She may have been looked at as a villain, but she was also very strong. She was determined. She said that she was going to make a female singing group and that they were going to be huge and she did it."

Rochelle joins Steve Edwards and Lisa Breckenridge on Good Day L.A.
