USC has banned weekday parties on fraternity row. The action comes after a number of hospitalizations from recent frat events.
Eight students have been taken to hospitals between last Thursday and Sunday. Seven of them were USC students, hospitalized for intoxication. One was a Loyola Marymount student who was seriously injured at a party on Thursday hosted by USC fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
Loyola student Carson Barenborg suffered a serious head injury and is still hospitalized. Her father said he didn't believe she was intoxicated at the time.
The university has suspended events at Sigma Alpha Epsilon and put the fraternity on social probation.
The other fraternities and sororities are abiding by university policy prohibiting social gatherings until after Friday at 3 p.m. Approved weekend events will be allowed to continue.
