Guard shot during beer run at Circle K, suspect outstanding

GLENDALE, Ariz. -

Glendale Police are looking for a man who shot a Circle K security guard during an attempted shoplifting.

Officers responded to the Circle K at 58th Ave and Camelback about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

They learned that inside the store, the suspect was approached by a plainclothes security guard, and a struggle ensued. A second security guard in uniform responded to help.

At some point during the struggle, the suspect pulled out a weapon and fired upon the uniformed guard. He was wearing a bulletproof vest and sustained only one gunshot wound to the body.

Even after being struck, the guard was able to Tase the suspect, but then the suspect pulled out a knife and cut the guard. The suspect then assaulted the plainclothes guard and fled.

The guard was taken to the hospital. He sustained non-life threatening injuries. The plainclothes guard sustained minor injuries.

The suspect fled and is described as a Hispanic male, late 30s or early 40s, 5'5" tall, approximately 150 pounds. He has short dark hair and a full mustache, wearing white tennis shoes, gray shorts, and a black or gray button-up style shirt. [See surveillance photos]
