Ten years ago, Sue Stees –co-owner of 18 Panera Bread franchises and a breast cancer survivor – was looking for ways to help other women fighting the same disease. In 2001 she developed the first Pink Ribbon Bagel – a cherry vanilla bagel in the shape of a ribbon. She started selling the popular bagels at her stores and donated the proceeds to breast cancer charities.  Twelve years and 7 million Pink Ribbon Bagels later, Panera Bread has raised over $1 million for breast cancer charities.  This year, 66 Panera locations throughout Southern California will donate 100% of Pink Ribbon Bagel sales on October 18, 2013 to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation and its mission to achieve a future without breast cancer by focusing on prevention and finding the cause.
