Vandal keys dozens of vehicles at car dealerships

GAINESVILLE, Ga. -

Police are searching for the vandal who keyed dozens of vehicles at several car dealerships in Gainesville.

The damage occurred over the weekend to vehicles at as many as five dealerships along Browns Bridge Road. Surveillance footage showed that the vandal acted fast.

"He just walked along and scrapped the sides and backs of most of the cars…It took him a total of five minutes or so to walk across the lot and damage 32 cars," said Chris Ellison, the operations manager at Carriage Nissan.

Ellison said that the damage was discovered on Monday morning.

"It's a random act of vandalism that doesn't make any sense to any of us," Ellison said. "Just to walk along and damage people's property is not understandable."

Gainesville police have been compiling reports from other dealers. A Toyota dealership found 14 cars with damage.

Between 50 and 100 vehicles were affected, with damages exceeding $30,000, according to Cpl. Kevin Holbrooke of the Gainesville Police Department.

Authorities said that the vandalism appeared to be random acts of meanness.
