Deal Reached To End Shutdown

Posted: Updated:

A deal is in sight to end the government shutdown and raise the country's debt limit.

The last minute agreement would re-open the government through mid-January.

Lawmakers are at the capitol ready to sign off on a deal that would end the government shut and avoid a default on the country's loans.

The house and senate are expected to vote on the bill Wednesday evening and it could end up on President Obama's desk by the end of the night.

Despite multiple tries from republicans, the bill includes no major changes to the affordable care act, also known as Obamacare.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell went along Independence Mall where a lot of local government workers and visitors will be very happy when this whole thing's passed.

Visitors and employees along independence mall are hoping tomorrow will be the day the government gets back to work.

Word from Capitol Hill is that congress has made a deal to avoid a government default, a bi-partisan agreement that may be voted on in the next few hours.

It would mean the locks to some of our city's most prized landmarks would come off and visitors allowed in after 16 days of being closed.

Thousands of visitors were turned away from Independence Mall and the Liberty Bell and other national park sites/

We ran into one couple from Australia whose 2-week vacation to the United States is ending today. A trip that was pretty much completely side tracked.

When these sites would be reopen is not yet clear, but conceivably of Congress acts tonight tourists and employees could be back here tomorrow morning.
