Diablo Cody: I Do Write About Offbeat People

Posted: Updated:

"I'm not comfortable being the boss, that's what I learned," Diablo Cody says of her directorial debut on the new movie, 'Paradise,' which she also wrote.

"It's really difficult for me to make decisions for people and to be in a position of power," Diablo explains to Steve Edwards and Lisa Breckenridge on Good Day L.A. "I'm used to being a more 'class clown' figure in life.  I was 'the man' here.  It was very strange waking up and being Johnny Law every day."

In response to the question, "How do you tell Russell Brand (who co-stars in "Paradise") what to do?" Diablo answers quickly and with tongue firmly implanted in cheek, "Physical violence."  Then she elaborates, "Actually I never had to tell Russell Brand what to do; he's such an instinctive actor."

In addition to Russell Brand, "Paradise" stars Julianne Hough and a pair of Academy Award winners, Octavia Spencer and Holly Hunter.  The movie opens in theaters on Friday, October 18, and you can also see it at home on Video On Demand.

2) She is also known for showrunning the television series United States of Tara (2009-2011) and for writing and producing the films Jennifer's Body (2009) and Young Adult (2011). 3) At the age of 27, Cody wrote her memoir Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper. Based on the popularity "The Pussy Ranch" had received, he was able to secure her a publishing contract with Gotham Books.
