Designated driver options to make your Halloween a safe one

Posted: Updated:

Halloween is here, and the Governor's Office of Highway Safety says that means more people will be out on the roads after they've had something to drink.  The good news?  There are plenty of affordable options to get you a designated driver to keep you and everyone else out there safe.

Aside from the old-fashioned taxi cab option, a ride can be summoned with just the tip of your finger—thanks to Uber and Uber-X.  The smartphone app dispatches a car service to your location via GPS.  The popular company can offer more predictable prices than cabs, and already serves most of metro Atlanta.

If you want to get home and bring your wheels with you, there are a few affordable options for services that will pick up both you and your car:

Safeway Drivers: 678-855-6944 (Rent by the hour with a four-hour minimum)

Safe Ride America: 404-888-0887

There is also a non-profit group out of Marietta that will get you and your vehicle home safely:
Designated Driver Alternative (404-713-1780) is provided by the Atlanta Fundraising Foundation.  Reservations can be made online, and they serve metro Atlanta.

If you're really in a pinch, AAA offers a Tow-to-Go option.  It is based on availability, and it's free for both members and non-members.  It's only offered from October 31-November 3, and tow trucks can only fit two people inside as a last-resort option.

All services vary in price.  Most designated driver alternatives run around $20-$30, but if you're far outside the city limits, it can add up.
