A college student, working as a mini market clerk to pay her tuition, was raped Saturday night in El Monte.
"She was closing the store between 9 and 10pm, the suspect must have been waiting, because he walked in at the last moment, dragged her to the back and brutally raped her" El Monte police officers saying they need help from the public.
The suspect, 18 year old Joseph Leo Amaya, is a known local gang member. He has the tattoo with lettering EMF in his right arm (representing one of the oldest El Monte gangs). He has family in the area, but has eluded police, which is why they are turning to the public.
"We know who he is" they said in front of news media, "we just need to find him, this could have been your daughter, or your sister, please help us".
The victim did not know the suspect, she was hospitalized right after the incident, but is now back home.
Amaya has a record, most of it as a juvenile, so it is not public.
Anyone with information please call El Monte detectives.
