Up to 8 Injured in Orange County Multi-Vehicle Crash

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO (AP) - As many as eight people have been injured when a big-rig truck smashed through a center divider on Interstate 5 in Orange County and struck several vehicles.

California Highway Patrol Officer Denise Quesada says the incident occurred shortly before 12:15 p.m. Thursday in San Juan Capistrano. Quesada says the truck was traveling northbound when, for unknown reasons, it crashed into the median and into oncoming traffic.

Four to five vehicles in the southbound lanes were hit and seven to eight people were injured. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

Most southbound lanes have been closed, while northbound traffic was not affected.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
