Bear Sighting in Pasadena Neighborhood

Posted: Updated:

PASADENA (FOX 11/CNS) - A bear roamed through some backyards and open areas of
Pasadena today, prompting police and wildlife officials to set up a containment area in hopes of tranquilizing it.

Authorities were notified of the roaming bear in the area of Cleveland Elementary School, on the 500 block of Palisade St., about 3 p.m., according to Andrew Hughan of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

"One warden is on the scene and another one is on the way," Hughan said. "We're going to do what we can to capture this bear and get him back into the wilderness."

"This is not uncommon at this time of the year," Hughan said. "The bears are trying to fatten up for the winter and this guy (bear) got a little lost. We're going to tranquilize him and put him back in the forest. From what I understand, the Pasadena Police Department has a containment area. He's around there somewhere."
