6 Philly Police Force Members Off Streets During Investigation

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Six members of the Philadelphia Police Department have been temporarily removed from duty after an internal investigation.

The five police officers and a supervisor have been take off the streets temporarily after a complaint from a resident involving an operation they conducted earlier this week, FOX 29's Shawnette Wilson reported Friday afternoon.

The officers are with the 24th District and part of the Narcotics Enforcement Team. They handle street-level narcotics; they do not serve warrants.

Officials won't say what the officers are accused of.

Wilson asked about reports that the officers took things from a resident's home in Kensington.

Here's what Deputy Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel had to say: "There are some allegations. We're looking at that. I'm not at liberty to tell you what that is, again, for the integrity of the investigation. I'm not responsible for that, Internal Affairs is. But we're looking at all aspects of the operation. You know, there were arrests made prior to that, leading up to, and any other complaints that came as a result of that."

The department's Internal Affairs Bureau is leading the investigation.

The complaint was made by a person who lives at the home where the operation was conducted.
