JJ Abrams, The Author

Posted: Updated:

We all know JJ Abrams as a brilliant producer and director. But author? Yup, the man who has carved out a huge footprint in Hollywood is about to add author to his list of achievements.

I interviewed the super cool filmmaker a few weeks ago before he left for London to begin work on the next "Star Wars" movie. Abrams' new show, "Almost Human" debuts on FOX next month and I was fortunate to get an interview with him just before he left town.

Abrams is one of the most powerful people in Hollywood, soon with three prime time shows on the air. ( "Revolution" on NBC, "Person of Interest"  on CBS and "Almost Human" debuting on FOX on Sunday November 17 at 8pm.) Also, he is a veteran "Star Trek" director, who is about to take over the "Star Wars" franchise. Suffices to say - he is one busy guy!

He is also the collaborator on a book due out October 29th, titled "S." What little we know about the book is that it was conceived by Abrams and written by the novelist Doug Dorst. It's a hard back novel-- nothing futuristic about it. It' s a book about two people who communicate by writing in the margins of a book. But as you might expect-- it's a book about so much more. I landed a copy of the much-sought-after book. There are plenty of notes in the margins of "S." Also there are several "props" stuck within the pages of the book to help the reader with the story-- things like notes, post cards, maps and letters. A video teaser released on advance of the book- yes- you heard right-- a video--has 2.5 million hits on YouTube.

As for "Almost Human" on which Abrams serves as EP, the show is set 30 years in the future.
It's about a series set  in a fictional city where a street cop is paired with a robot. I will have clips to show along with my interview with Abrams and his partner on the project JH Wyman. My story on "Almost Human" will air  with the debut on November 17 & 18 to coincide with the show's debut. I found Abrams to warm, funny and very generous. Stand by!
