Suspect allegedly shoves bike at officer, barricades self inside apartment

Updated:
PHOENIX -

A barricade situation began in an apartment complex near 32nd Street and Thomas Road after an officer questioned a suspect about a robbery in the area.

Police say an officer approached a 33-year-old man riding a bicycle near 34th and Pinchot to ask him some questions about a robbery in the area around 11 p.m. on Monday.

The man allegedly shoved his bike at the officer and ran.

He was eventually traced to Casa Mia Apartments and holed up inside a unit around 2 a.m.

Police say friends at the apartment left when the barricade situation started.

After a couple of hours, authorities managed to negotiate with the man, get him out and take him into custody.

Police are searching the apartment for weapons possibly used in other crimes and to figure out if the man was involved with the robbery on Monday night.

The suspect's name hasn't been released.
