Residents of Cholla Ranch Apartments in Buckeye were evacuated after shots were fired Tuesday night.
It all started when someone reported a 46-year-old man was walking around the complex, near Miller and Baseline Road, carrying a gun around 6 p.m.
The man has been identified as Edward Tackett.
When officers arrived and tried to contact Tackett, the man allegedly raised his weapon and pointed at officers.
They fired upon him, who retreated into his apartment, according to Sgt. Jason Weeks of Buckeye Police. He refused to come out.
At some point during the night, Tackett was reportedly firing random shots into a building next door.
The SWAT team was called out to negotiate and evacuate the apartment complex.
Residents were sent to the Buckeye Community Center.
No one was injured.
After hours of negotiating overnight, Tackett was taken into custody around just before midnight. Investigators are working to figure out why the man fired at officers.
Tackett faces charges of aggravated assault with a weapon, criminal damage and discharging a firearm in city limits.
A 2-year Buckeye police officer was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, standard practice in an officer involved shooting.
