Boston Marathon Bombing Victim Offensive Halloween Costume Prompts Online Outrage

Posted: Updated:

Alicia Ann Lynch decided to dress up as a "survivor" of the Boston Marathon bombing and posted her costume online. But what was even more outrageous than her tasteless costume was the reaction she received online.

Angry hate-fueled tweets were posted but then angry comments turned into death threats. When a photo of her license was found online, her parents started getting harassed at her old address. Lynch says she received violent death threats and there was an online push for her to be fired. Her employer was contacted and nude photos of her were spread on the internet. Lynch told the website Buzzfeed she realized she made a mistake and is paying for poor judgment but says her parents had no idea what she was dressing up as and asked people on Twitter to stop harassing them.

Lynch has lost her job and deleted all of her other social media accounts. Even though there were others that dressed up in similar costumes, Lynch believes she was singled out because she's a woman. But to face death threats and lose your job over a tasteless Halloween costume? What do you think?
