(FOX 11) One day after the New Jersey mall shooting, the LA County
Sheriff's Department conducted a drill at the Cerritos mall. The scenario is an
active shooter at the mall.
It was quite a scene to witness even if it was just for
Deputies wearing masks and with their guns drawn stormed
into the mall. They had received information of a shooter inside. As they approached one of the doors, two people came out. Deputies had to decide
if they were suspects or simply innocent
shoppers. They let them go. Moments
later, the LA County Sheriff's Swat team arrived in a helicopter. One by one, they dropped down ready to take
control of whatever is going on inside the mall.
This drill which was conducted by the LA County Sheriff's Department and the LA
County fire is all about safety and being prepared for any kind of attack. At least 80 personnel from the Sheriff's
department participated in today's event.
They do these type of drills on a regular basis. Captain Keith Swensson says it's good to be
prepared for anything. His advice if you're ever caught in a dangerous
situation is to run away from the action. He says, "If you ever hear any gunshots you want to leave. It's important
to get away."
