Man Arrested for Rustling Cow Costumes

Posted: Updated:

Redlands Police  have arrested an  aspiring entrepreneur and  recovered two 7-foot cow costumes which were taken during two burglaries of the Chick-Fil-A restaurant storage facility earlier this year.

The suspect had posted the costumes for sale online on Craigslist , and  that was what led to his undoing.  A Redlands police officer spotted the distinctive mascot outfit on the website, and contacted the seller, offering to buy the costume.

When the seller told the officer that he had two for sale for $350 apiece, the officer replied that it would make the perfect his-and-hers costumes for him and his wife.

After arranging to meet the suspect in San Bernardino to pick up the costumes, Police arrested 43-year-old Robert Michael Trytten, of Riverside, when he showed the stolen cow costumes to the undercover officer.

The costumes are valued at $2800 apiece.  They, as well as a pop-up canopy also stolen from the restaurant, were recovered and returned to Chick-Fil-A.

Trytten is being held for possession of stolen property at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino in lieu of $275,000 bail.
