National Toy Hall Of Fame Inducts Two New Toys

Posted: Updated:

There are two new inductees into the National Toy Hall Of Fame. One winner is all about good clean fun, and the other involves skill and brain power in order to play. The bottom line: they're both classics.

The Rubber Ducky and Chess, two polar opposite kind of toys, were inducted into the Toy Hall Of Fame yesterday.

The ceremony was in Rochester, New York, and nationally syndicated cartoonist Leigh Rubin appeared as a guest.

While toy historians say that Chess traces back to an Ancient Indian War Game, they're not so sure who came up with those little rubber duckies.

Some of the other finalists included Bubbles, Clue, Fisher-Price Little People, Magic 8 Ball, Nerf Toys, The Scooter, My Little Pony, Little Green Soldiers Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Pac-Man.

Watch the segment and here listen to some of our anchors' favorite childhood toys.

According to the National Toy Hall of Fame, anyone can nominate a toy to be inducted in the selection process. An internal museum advisory committee comprised of curators, educators and historians then review the nominations and determine what toys meet the criteria for selection. A national selection committee then reviews the finalist and votes on its picks to choose winners. Past inductees include dominoes, star wars figurines and Hot Wheels. View the full list here.
