Family, friends and supporters gathered Friday morning for the funeral of Renisha McBride.

No charges have been filed after authorities said Renisha, of Detroit, was killed by a shotgun blast to the face early last Saturday in Dearborn Heights. A man told investigators that he thought someone was trying to break into his home and accidentally discharged the gun, according to police.

McBride's family said she likely approached the home to seek help after getting into a car accident nearby.

Dearborn Heights Police sent a warrant request to the Wayne County Prosecutor who sent it back asking for more information before making a decision on charges.

Fox 2 spoke with the attorney for the homeowner, who says, "I would characterize it at this point as a tragedy for everybody involved."

The National Action Network is planning a rally for Saturday, November 9, at 10 a.m. at Historic King Solomon Baptist Church on 14th Street.

A white casket - an innocent life lost, and tears from grieving loved ones at the funeral for Renisha McBride. She was only 19 years old. Now her parents, relatives and friends must lay her to rest, far too soon.

"She was a beautiful girl and she would not have hurt anybody - there was no threat - she didn't have any weapons or anything," her cousin Krystal Byrd says.

"I want justice for my niece. I don't want this guy walking around; he needs to be locked up. He needs to know what he did - he took a life," says her aunt Bernita Spinks.

"We believe that Kym Worthy will do the right thing and prosecute to the fullest extent," says Renisha's father, Walter Simmons.

Renisha's father and mother, unable to go on. Their hearts so heavy after a shooting that never should have happened.

Early Saturday morning Renisha had a car accident, went looking for help but instead was shot on the front porch of this Dearborn Heights home.

"She was disoriented and then she's lost without her cell phone; the cell phone was dead that we know. The amazing thing is nobody else pulled out a gun and killed her because she was asking for help," says Gerald Thruswell, the family's attorney.

"Imagine if you were out there and you had an accident and you were looking for help and nobody helped you, and the help that you got ended your life," says Ron Scott of the Coalition Against Police Brutality.

Fox 2 made contact with the alleged shooter's attorney, Cheryl Carpenter. She tells us, "I would characterize it at this point as a tragedy for everybody involved."

Reached by phone, Carpenter describes what happened before Renisha was killed. Her client, she says, was home alone asleep between 4 and 4:30 Saturday morning, November 2nd.

" ... The middle of the night, everything is completely dark, and he hears somebody, or more than one person, trying to come into his house," Carpenter explains.

Dearborn Heights Police sent a warrant request to the Wayne County Prosecutor who sent it back asking for more information before making a decision on charges.
The alleged shooter has not been arrested, and that has activists comparing this to other high profile cases, like Trayvon Martin.

"We are one of the states across the country that is a "Stand Your Ground" state and, as we know, the one who committed this crime is already saying that he believes this shooting was justified," says Rev. Charles Williams of the National Action Network.

Also from the National Action Network, Pastor Maurice Rudd adds, "Her blood is crying from the earth; her blood is crying for justice."
