Arizona visitors not expecting warm weather in November

Posted: Updated:

Travelers at Sky Harbor Airport weren't ready for the kind of heat we're experiencing right now.

Imagine -- some of these people got up Monday morning and it was 35°, they arrive in Phoenix and it's 89°.  That's a 54° difference and not everyone was ready for it.

The boots, the scarves, down jackets, the fake fur -- Sky Harbor was flooded with those coming from much cooler climates.  No doubt some feeling a little overdressed once they landed.

It was a weather reality check for this group attending a conference in the valley this week.  They left New Jersey where the high was in the low 50s -- they landed about 40 degrees hotter in Phoenix.

When asked if he knew the high temperature, Giovanni Arranz replied, "No I don't.. we were told to dress warmly because at night it gets chilly."

Chilly in those conference rooms, but this is how many hope to be dressing this week outside in the valley.

On the flip side, many are leaving our balmy temperatures.

Here for a NASCAR weekend, this couple says it's hard to head back home to Washington state.  Warm clothes are ready to put back on when they arrive home to Seattle, and mid-50s and rain.

"A hoodie sweat shirt, I have my leather coat, you took it off for the weekend and now you have to put it back on.. I was in a tank top and shorts and sandals all weekend and it was wonderful," said Kristiana Christianson.

So wonderful, she says they don't want to leave, but have to.

"We actually have to work.  It's where we live, but we're considering looking at places down here."

It's how a lot of people come to call the valley home -- one visit this time of year and they're hooked.
