GLM: Top Words Of 2013

Every year, the global language monitor (GLM) releases its list of the most popular words from the Internet and in the media. A new list of the top words, phrases, and names has come out from 2013

The top word this year is "404," an Internet error code.

The word "Fail" came in second.

And in third, "Hashtag."

The top phrase of 2013 is "Toxic Politics."

It is followed by "Federal Shutdown," and "Global Warming/Climate Change."

The top name of 2013 was Pope Francis. He was followed by ObamaCare, NSA, Snowden, and Kate Middleton.

To have made the list, the word, name or phrase has to have been used at least 25,000 times online in various forms of social media that are not specific to a profession or social group.
