ATLANTA -

A meeting between representatives for the Atlanta Braves and Governor NathanDeal only took 10 minutes Wednesday morning.

Insiders tell FOX 5 that Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed requested the meeting totalk about the Braves' timeline for moving to their new Cobb County home.

"It was really more of a meeting to discuss transitions. That was really allit was," Deal said.

On Monday, the Braves announced plans to leave Turner Fieldwhen their lease expires at the end of the 2016 season. They said they'll moveto a new facility to be built near the intersection of Interstate 75 andInterstate 285 in Cobb County.

While the Braves have secured the land, they have not yet secured fullfunding to build a new stadium near the exchange of Interstates 75 and 285.

Deal saidthat he too was surprised by the team's announcement and only got a one day'snotice before the story broke. Deal said that there has been no request forstate funds.

"Major projects of that type sometimes do haveimplications, whether it be transportation implications or things of thatnature, but I do not see this as something that the taxpayers of the statewould be asked or called upon to pay for," Deal said.

The announcement drew criticism from members of Atlanta's city council.Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has challenged City Council members who oppose the Bravesplanned move to Cobb County. Some Atlanta City Council members insist thatthecity can put together a $100 million package to fund improvements to TurnerField.

Council members hope to have a meeting with the Braves by the end of theweek.

Reed says Cobb County has simply comeup with a financial package Atlanta cannot afford.
