Venice, CA -

(FOX 11 / CNS) A man found on the ground by residents in Venice was pronounced dead at a hospital this morning, police said.

The man was found about 12:15 a.m. at Pacific Avenue and Washington Boulevard, said Sgt. Corbin Rheault of the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Station.

"Citizens saw the man down in distress and flagged down patrol officers and officers contacted the Los Angeles Fire Department,'' Rheault said. Paramedics noticed the man had significant trauma and transported him to UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, the sergeant said.

The victim was described as a Hispanic man of about 25. His name was withheld pending family notification, Rheault said. Police did not immediately say how the man was wounded.

Homicide detectives were at the scene searching for evidence, Rheault said.
