Portland Residents Receive Unwelcomed Visitor

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, Ore. -

Some Portland, Oregon residents needed to call roto-rooter to make their troubles go down the drain.

"So I look down and it was like out of a movie: all the water was just pouring out the edges of all of the toilet; the whole thing just like a waterfall. I was wondering is this just my toilet ‘cause I'm in the basement and something weird is going on? Is the whole house having a problem?" recalled John Carter, a resident.

He was not alone in witnessing this site. Water came gushing through many people's toilets for no apparent reason. It caught residents off guard and sent them running for help.

"My roommate runs upstairs and he's like there's something wrong with my toilet and I'm like ‘mine is freaking out too,'" Angie Davis, another Portland resident said.

The city says crews were cleaning the sewer system with compressed air and the water found its way out somewhere. Usually though, it doesn't end up in people's homes.

"We pretty much wiped everything down and came in here with a bunch of bleach," Davis said.
