New water research center opens at Plant Bowen

Posted: Updated:

EUHARLEE, Ga. (AP) - A new, multi-million-dollar water research center has opened at Plant Bowen in Euharlee, and officials hope it will provide the basis for efforts to improve how power plants across the country use water.

Tom Banks is the manager for Plant Bowen and he tells the Rome News-Tribune that the center is the only facility in the world dedicated to testing techniques and methodologies to manage water used for power generation.

Georgia Power Co. partnered with the Electric Power Research Institute, the Southern Research Institute and 14 other companies on the project.

The newspaper says Georgia Power Co. contributed $6 million for the project, while the Electric Power Research Institute provided a matching $6 million. A dedication ceremony was held this week.
