Police: NY deli owners stole $1M lottery ticket

Posted: Updated:

Police have arrested the owner of a Long Island deli and his son for allegedly trying to cheat a customer out of a big lottery jackpot.

Authorities in Hempstead say 26-year-old Karim Jaghab was handed a million-dollar winning ticket by a customer at the Peninsula Deli and Grocery on Thursday.

Investigators say he gave the customer $1000 dollars and kept the scratch-off ticket.

Police then say the customer went back to the store on Friday to dispute the payout and was offered $10,000 by Jaghab's 57-year-old father Nabil.

Their attorney says it was a mistake caused by a lottery machine.
