Why Are There So Many Commercials In Theaters These Days?

Posted: Updated:

Is it just me or do you also think movie theaters are increasing the amount of commercials they play. Now, mind you, I would have no problem with commercials if I didn't have to pay for a ticket. You know, as with television we watch because commercials pay the bills or free apps which are funded by ads. But, when you pay $18.50 a ticket seems like the presentation should be commercial free.

Over the weekend when I saw the new "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" I saw more ads before the movie than I think I've ever seen in a theater. There was even one in which the announcer said "This movie is brought to you by.." a big name store!"

It costs a lot to get into a theater. Sure, money collected at the box office goes to the movie maker. So, maybe I should say you pay a lot for popcorn and a drink. That's what the theater operator gets. But, do we have to watch so many commercials too? And, if the movie is brought to us by some major business why do we have to pay so much? Just askin'.

I really would like an answer which you can send to hal.eisner@foxtv.com. Thanks!
