The chief of Atlanta's water department insists that security has been improved at its facilities, despite reports of repeated thefts of expensive equipment.

FOX 5's Morse Diggs previously reported on the thefts at two of Department of Watershed complexes.

Department of Watershed Commissioner Jo Ann Macrina denied that the facilities are vulnerable.

"Our security system and our security program is quite far along and much, much further along than it ever has been," Macrina said.

Macrina said she couldn't discuss specific criminal cases, including 28 industrial meters worth nearly $150,000 that went missing, but FOX 5's Morse Diggs did discuss what workers have described as systemic problems.

After Diggs noted that private security guards aren't allowed to check outgoing vehicles from facilities, Macrina responded, "We have tightened our procedures of checking things out of the warehouse. So when someone goes in to get a meter, for example, they have to provide certain information, and that includes where they are taking that meter. "

Macrina said she has a master plan to improve security, including the latest in digital cameras. She said that 1,200 cameras will be added by 2015.
