Detroit mother asks killer to come forward in son's murder

A Detroit mother is now mourning two children after her son is murdered.  She says he went down the block to check on her niece when he encountered a robber who shot and killed him.

The crime happened this summer and police are still working to solve it.

This is the block where Brandon was murdered. His family has been through so much, and now they're hoping that someone has the compassion to come forward and help police solve this murder.

"Brandon was everybody's angel. He protected everybody; looked out for everybody."

Especially his mother.

In 2010 Edna Barnett was involved in a car accident that took the life of her 16-year-old daughter and left her severely injured. Her son, Brandon, was with her every step of the way.

"He helped me. He was with me every day. He couldn't cook, but he cooked for me because I couldn't cook for myself."

But Brandon's life was cut short. It happened August 26 near the intersection of Pierson and Cathedral, just two blocks from the family's home.

"He went around the corner to just check on my niece."

And when the 25 year old got to the house he encountered a robber and was shot and killed.

"I miss him every day, every day."

And all this mother can home for is justice.

"How do you play God, to end somebody's life, and you're not God. How? ... I just hope whoever did it would come forward. ... Even to say, 'I'm sorry,' it would mean something.
