MESA, Ariz. -

It happened Halloween night -- 36-year-old Brian Weathers, a military veteran, was found tortured and shot to death outside of a Mesa home.

Police in Tennessee have arrested three man in connection with Weathers' death.  These three men were known for being troublemakers and abusing drugs in Tennessee.  It's unknown why they were in Arizona, but someone came forward and linked them to the murder in Mesa.

18-year-old Brandon Simon, 22-year-old Joseph Holt and 22-year-old Zackary Burgess are accused of shooting Weathers and leaving him to die.

"I just found him laying in the driveway," said Nancy Boylan, who remembers seeing Weathers' badly injured outside of her daughter's home a couple doors down on Harmony Avenue.

"I said, well, you better look out your front window," said Boylan.

It's not clear where Weathers came from or if his body was dropped off, but the people who own this home near Mesa Drive and the U.S. 60 woke up in the middle of the night to find Weathers in their driveway.

Weathers later died at a hospital.  Mesa Police say a witness came forward and led them to the three men in Tennessee where local deputies tracked the trio down.

"The vehicle they happened to be using.. evidence was located to link the homicide here in Mesa back to them," said Det. Diana Williams.

The suspects were booked into the Cheatham County Jail on November 18th.

"Locally, they have burglary charges, theft charges and they've each been charged with fugitive from justice, which is our way of getting them extradited to another state," said CCSO Chief Deputy Wendell Nichols.

Residents in Mesa at least have the comfort of knowing Weathers' accused killers didn't come from their own neighborhood or even their state.

"Yeah, I'm glad," said Boylan.

The extradition process has begun, but we're still waiting to find out exactly when the men will be back in Arizona to be formally charged.
