Deliveryman's Shooting Caught On Video, Police Say

PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia police have released surveillance video of suspects in Thursday's shooting of a pizza deliveryman in Overbrook.

Police say the video clearly shows the mer were carrying a gun and lying in wait for pizza delivery man William Anderson when he pulled up in front of the Monte Vista apartments at 63rd and Nassau just before 1 a.m. Thursday.

"It looks like it was a planned attack," said Captain Ben Naish, of Southwest Detectives.

The video also shows two men as they tried to rob Anderson and he tried to fight them off.

The 30-year-old Anderson was hit in the chest, stomach and legs.

Another delivery driver who lives here found him lying in the street. The two suspects ran from the shooting scene, jumped in a dark-colored Pontiac Grand AM or Grand Prix on Nassau Street with a getaway driver and escaped.

Naish said the suspects were "as armed and dangerous as you get," adding, "the fact that he's going to live doesn't take away from the fact they're just as easy gonna kill somebody for a small amount of money."

Anderson worked at Pete's Pizza at 54th and Arlington, where everyone described him as a hardworking guy just trying to earn a living. They were stunned by the late-night shooting that left him in critical-but-stable condition with multiple gunshot wounds.

"He's out there trying to make a living, support a family and this is what happens," Naish explained.

"It was a setup, man," said Lou Davis, who was a deliveryman for 15 years.

Davis was putting up Christmas decorations across the street from the crime scene, thinking back to his days making deliveries and hoping Anderson recovers. He says these are tough times to be working in that line of business.

"I used to do delivery, and I had to get out of it. That's all they're doing, stick-ups," he said.

Naish says police do have some leads, and they hope to interview Anderson, who is now conscious and doing better.

"There seems to be an open season on legitimate people, working people," he said. "Anybody with money is fair game."

Investigators do have a possible person of interest in the case, but no charges have been filed and no arrests have been made.
