What is beezin'? (It involves lip balm and eyelids)

Posted: Updated:

Smearing lip balm on your eyelids may seem an odd way to spend your weekend. Dr. Robert Cykiert would even tell you it's a really stupid way to spend your weekend.

"It's a foolish thing to do, but college kids sometimes do strange things," he said. "Yeah, of course it's dangerous. It includes all kinds of ingredients that could potentially get in the eye and cause some burning and irritation."

But a quick Twitter search on a Friday or Saturday night reveals plenty of kids doing just that. They call it 'beezin'."

On YouTube we find kids bees-waxing poetic while Urban Dictionary buzzes with beezin' definitions.

Stepping out of the shadows in my Fox 5 jacket on a rainy night at Hunter College and asking students if they were beezin' went against my better judgment. But an assignment was an assignment.

No one seemed to have heard of beezin'. Maybe the beeze has yet to land on this college campus or Hunter's Burt's beezers were simply in their dorm rooms beezin' their faces off.

Beezin' makes one sweet-as-honey hashtag. But aside from tweeting about the eyes and the beeze why beeze at all?

Online those who say they beeze claim it keeps them awake and alert.

"I guess if you like to stay awake by having a burning sensation that might work, but having a goodnight sleep or some coffee in the morning is probably a much safer way to accomplish that," Dr. Cykiert said.

Beezin' ain't easy.

Beeze at your own risk or, better, maybe don't beeze at all.
