Is CitiBike ready for the snow?

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A snow storm is expected to dump two to four inches on New York City on Tuesday. So, this will be the first test of whether the CitiBike share program can weather the wintry weather. But, will riders still ride?

The Department of Transportation released a statement about inclement weather and what will happen to the CitiBike bicycles:

"NYCBS will relocate bikes from major streets to sidewalk and plaza stations and workers will shovel out stations promptly," DOT spokesman Seth Solomonow said in the statement. "If conditions make biking unsafe, the stations can be temporarily locked down but service will be restored as quickly as possible once conditions permit."

The DOT added that the city will plow bike lanes. That is good news for those who still want to ride, even if it freezing and a little snowy.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
