TEMPE, Ariz. -

A 15-year-old student allegedly lit a fire in a locker room at a Tempe high school on Thursday.

Tempe police spokeswoman Molly Enright says a student intentionally lit a fire inside a gym locker in the boy's locker room at Marcos de Niza High School.

There weren't any students in the locker room at the time, but an employee inside the building smelled the smoke and called 911.

The employee was able to extinguish the fire, which was in a small area and haven't had time to spread.

Enright says afterward, the employee was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation.

Tempe detectives were able to determine that a 15-year-old Marcos de Niza student intentionally started the fire.

The student was arrested and charged with arson of an occupied structure, aggravated criminal damage, and interference with or disruption of an educational institution.

The name and photo of the suspect isn't being released because he is a juvenile.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311.
