Woman's boyfriend arrested in Monterey Park homicide

Posted: Updated:

MONTEREY PARK (FOX 11/CNS) - A 23-year-old woman was found dead Friday in the bedroom of a Monterey Park residence and her 35-year old boyfriend has been arrested in connection to her death, it was announced Saturday.

The body of Jacqueline Alamillo was discovered at about 4:30 a.m. Friday in the 1700 block of College View Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Daniel Hernandez is suspected of killing Alamillo, and was arrested Friday as he was "acting suspiciously in traffic"  about an hour after the discovery of Alamillo's body, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

"Police officers responded to the location regarding a request to check the welfare of the residents," a sheriff's statement said. "They received no response from the residents, entered the location, and discovered a woman deceased in one of the bedrooms."

"Approximately one hour later, Monterey Park police officers responded to a call of a man acting suspiciously in traffic, yelling at passing cars," the statement said. "The officers detained the man and learned he was the domestic partner of the deceased woman on College View Drive."

"Further investigation revealed that around 10 p.m. the night before, a sibling of the detained man visited the location, found him to be acting strangely and left the location," the sheriff's statement related. "At 4 a.m., family members called (police) and requested the welfare check."

Sheriff's homicide detectives handle Monterey Park murders under a contract with the smaller agency.

Hernandez was held without bail at the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles and was expected in court in Alhambra on Wednesday, according to sheriff's online booking records.

Gov. Jerry Brown has signed into law a bill making it perfectly legal to bring your dog out to dinner with you. The dog must remain in an outdoor-dining section, be on a leash, behave, and not be in the same area where food is being prepared. The law, which goes into effect Jan. 1 , should provide some relief to dog lovers statewide.
