NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - After another round of snow came to portions of the Tristate area Tuesday. A fast-moving "clipper" system developed across the area making commuting difficult and dangerous.

A massive accident involving more than a dozen cars happened in the evening on the Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn.

Part of the Long Island Expressway experienced icy conditions during the evening commute and was shut down for emergency salting and sanding.

Metro-North New Haven line trains were delayed because of weather-related problems.

Accumulation ranged from 1 to 2 inches where rain mixed in and 1 to 3 inches for the rest of the region including New York City.

The storm pulled away Tuesday evening, so any snow, sleet, or freezing rain around the area was ending. Lots of clouds stay for the night and there could be a stray flurry as the low temperature stops at 25 degrees in Midtown and 15 to 23 degrees across the suburbs, according to Fox 5's Nick Gregory.

The New York City Department of Sanitation had issued a Snow Alert for Tuesday. Alternate Side Parking Regulations were suspended citywide as part of that alert.

NJ Transit offered system wide cross-honoring on Tuesday due to the expected winter weather conditions.

A tiny new spy device aims to automatically transcribe and Tweet overheard conversations. It's called Conversnitch.  Brian House and Kyle McDonald are behind the eavesdropping device.  They say it bridges the gap between (presumed) private physical space and public space online.

Mayor Bill de Blasio is pulling back the reins on his plans to quickly get rid of New York City's horse-drawn carriage industry, stung by a recent outpouring of support for the colorful coaches that have clip-clopped their way through Central Park for more than 150 years. A campaign pledge to take on the horses during his first week as mayor was eclipsed by other issues.
