How much will $75,000 buy ?
They say you're not supposed to outlive your kids right ? So, the pain on Alan Howe's face, and the anguish is his voice, was plain for all at the LAPD news conference to see. This older, white haired, distinguished looking minister from Evanston, IL was in the front of the room along with his wife, his sister, and a lot of family and friends of his murdered son James Marcus Howe, as the City announced a $75, 000 dollar reward for the CONVICTION of his killer.
"Stunned'' is how Alan Howe put it, as he pleaded with the public for someone to call the LAPD's Northeast Division with any information. His son James, 42, and his wife, apparently answered the door of their Eagle Rock home in the late morning of Nov 27th the day before Thanksgiving, to a young man posing as a solicitor. Two others rushed in with him and there was a fierce struggle on the front porch. A gun was involved, and Howe was shot and killed, his wife seriously wounded. Their young son, home, was unharmed. The alleged killers, two young black men and a black woman , fled in an older green mustang convertible with a tan top. That's it. No motive, no apparent targeting of Howe, at least that's what the police are saying publicly. Broad daylight.. gunfire... quiet residential neighborhood. A ministers son shot down... a 42 year old that his father insisted was ''living a purposeful life we were very close '' . Hopefully justice will be done.
(FOX 11/CNS) - A $75,000 reward was announced today for information leading to the prosecution of whoever shot and killed a 42-year-old television director and wounded his wife at their home in Eagle Rock.
James Marcus Howe was shot around 10:50 a.m. on Nov. 27 at his home in the 4400 block of West Avenue 42 and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. His wife was taken to a hospital in serious condition, Richard French of the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Howe and his wife were at home when a 16- to 22-year-old male, posing as a solicitor, knocked on their door, police said.
As Howe and his wife went to answer the door, the first suspect and a second male, this one between 20 and 25, forced their way inside and during an ensuing struggle, the second suspect pulled a handgun and shot both victims, police said.
A third suspect, a female, was also being sought, as was a dark-colored early 2000s Ford Mustang, according to police.
LAPD Detective Harold Dicroce said the victim and his wife moved to the neighborhood with their 6-year-old son during the summer. Howe has been identified in media reports as a director of The CW competition series "America's Next Top Model."
