Buying A Christmas Tree? Go Eco-Friendly This Season

Posted: Updated:

It all started in the South Bay,  but thanks to an investment deal with Mark Cuban on the "Shark Tank" show on ABC, the Living Christmas Company is expanding.

The company offers live, potted Christmas trees for rent during the holiday season, allowing people to hang on to their holiday traditions without sacrificing a tree.

Even better - the company delivers right to your living room,   picks up after the holidays are over, and you can order various sizes and types of trees on line.

If you become attached, you can "adopt" your tree, and have the same one visit you every year.

And this year, they are offering rentals from the "Island of Misfit Trees."   These are trees that may lean a bit, or have a couple of bald spots, but they need love too.  And, they rent for as much as half off the "premium" trees.

The service is available from LA and Orange counties, and now in San Diego and Marin Counties.

Founder Scott Martin pitched his idea on the "Shark Tank" show, and enticed billionaire Mark Cuban to invest $150 thousand in the company, allowing them to expand to Northern California.

Founded in 2008, The Living Christmas Company, a socially conscious-based business, introduces a new concept of celebrating the holidays: renting the highest quality living Christmas trees as an environmental alternative to traditional cut or artificial trees. The rental program allows customers to select their preferred type and size of tree, schedule delivery and pick-up and purchase ecologically sensitive ornaments and Fair Trade ornaments and decorations - all online.

In 2013, the service is available from Los Angeles and Orange County to San Diego and Marin County. The company is headquartered in Redondo Beach, Calif. For more information, visit www.livingchristmas.com.

Apple's announcement of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last week included a free download of U2's newest album to 500 million iCloud accounts. The free giveaway upset some customers who did not want the 11 songs from 'Songs of Innocence' synced to their devices without their permission.

I had the chance to demo Samsung's Gear VR recently. It's a virtual reality headset powered by a smartphone. Don't let that fool you though. It's impressive!
