Possible road rage incident leads to stabbing at CVS pharmacy

Posted: Updated:

Maricopa County Sheriff's officials say a man was stabbed in the abdomen and forearm Tuesday afternoon at a CVS pharmacy.

"There was an altercation between two males in the CVS parking lot near RH Johnson and Meeker.  We believe this started from a road rage but we are still confirming at this point," stated MCSO spokesman Joaquin Enriquez.

According to Enriquez, it appears one of the males stabbed the other one, but they both have injuries, which are not life threatening.

MCSO officials say the assault may have stemmed from a traffic altercation in which one of the drivers pulled the other out of his car and started punching him.

The driver who was being attacked was able to get back into his car where he grabbed a pocket knife.

"As he's getting beat up, he's able to grab a two inch pocket knife and actually defend himself," said Enriquez.  "He stabbed the suspect in the torso area and in the arm."

The 50-year-old stabbing victim was transported to an area hospital.  The other person involved in the altercation, a 70-year-old man, was detained.

No names have been released and there is no one outstanding in this case.

Deputies say if charges are filed, they'll be against the man who initiated the attack.
