Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11 / CNS) A clerk at a Highland Park 7-Eleven convenience store was fatally wounded during a robbery attempt, police said today.

The shooting occurred at 10:26 p.m. Sunday at the 7-Eleven at Avenue 52 and Figueroa Street, said Sgt. David Torres of the Los Angeles Police Department's Northeast Station.

The clerk was transported in "serious to critical condition,'' Torres said, and pronounced dead at the hospital. The mortally wounded clerk was discovered by another employee.

There were two suspects, both men, Torres said. About an hour earlier, two men held up a 7-Eleven in the 3200 block of North Broadway in Lincoln Heights, said Sgt. R. Michaels of the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollenbeck Station.

Money was taken but no one was injured. Michaels said he does not believe the two robberies were related.
