2-alarm fire rips through J.R. Crickets on Spring Street

ATLANTA, Ga. -

Authorities responded to a two-alarm fire at a longtime Midtown Atlanta restaurant early Tuesday.

Crews battled the blaze at a building at the corner of Spring Street and North Avenue around 3 a.m.

When fire crews arrived, they reported seeing smoke on the top floor of the building. The structure is believed to house apartments and J.R. Cricket's restaurant. That restaurant has been open for 30 years.

A manager vowed to rebuild and reopen the restaurant at some point.

Fire officials believe the blaze started from a cord on a refrigerator in an empty second-floor apartment.

No injuries were reported.
