Posted: Updated:
Duarte, CA -

(FOX 11 / CNS) A boy was shot and killed in Duarte in the third shooting in the community in three days, authorities said.

The unidentified boy-- he was 16, according to broadcast reports -- was fatally shot in the 2500 block of Huntington Dr. around 11:45 p.m. Monday, said Deputy Benjamin Grubb of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives were dispatched to the scene to investigate the homicide. Sheriff's officials said the boy was affiliated with a street gang, and the shooting may have been gang-related.

At 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, 18-year-old Malcom Mency was gunned down in the 2000 block of Broderick Avenue, Grubb said. The father of a one-month-old son had walked home after working a shift at a nearby Sonic Drive-In.

Around 3 p.m. that day, an unidentified man was wounded by a shot to the lower back on his front yard in the Mt. Olive Drive and Bloomfield Street area.

Anyone with information about any of these cases was urged to call homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500. They also can anonymously provide a tip by calling (800) 222-TIPS (8477) or sending an email to lacrimestoppers.org.
