Gov. Snyder talks the possibility of running for a second term

Gov. Rick Snyder has not formally announced he is running for a second term but he's doing all the things potential candidates tend to do before a race. Fox 2's Tim Skubick sat down with the Governor to explore the possibility of a re-election campaign and how Snyder would handle Democratic criticism of his first term.

"As you know me, Tim [Skubick], I run on being positive," says Gov. Rick Snyder.

Michigan's 48th governor doesn't say anything bad about anyone, even when they call him names. His likely Democratic opponent Mark Schauer next year has told the voters, "You thought you were voting for Bill Milliken, who was a moderate Republican governor, but you got Dick DeVos instead, a super conservative business guy. So, does the governor fire back at Schauer?

"I'm not either one of those people ... I'm Rick Snyder," he says.

The Democrats will also hit the Governor for not creating enough jobs. He's ready when they do.

"We're number four for the rate of job creation in the private sector. And, very important, we were number four in high-paying job creation," he says.

"But you're number three in unemployment," points out Skubick.

"Well, again, it's improved in terms of coming down," Snyder responds.

The Democrats will blast him for cutting education and he will claim he actually increased education spending. And then there's the Mitt Romney potential problem. Mr. Romney lost the presidency because, in part, he was rich and perceived to be out of touch with common folks.

Does Snyder have a potential Romney problem?

"I could in some regards," Snyder says.

If he does, what will he do to counteract the Democratic claim that "he is not one of us?"

"Well, I'm happy to share stories about working for a dollar and a quarter an hour," Snyder offers.

Skubick asks, "So you're not intimidated by that charge at all?"

Snyder answers, "No, I'm proud of my background."

The Governor says he will run on his record.
