QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (AP) - A husband and wife face animal cruelty charges after police say the woman neutered a dog and a kitten for friends who didn't want to pay veterinarians for the surgery.

Authorities said both animals required extensive veterinary care after the botched amateur operations in 2011.

The Glens Falls Post-Star reports that 48-year-old Lisa Clothier and 45-year-old Harold Clothier have been wanted since 2011 on arrest warrants from Warren and Washington counties.

The warrants were issued after the couple pleaded guilty to some cruelty charges but moved from Argyle in Washington County to Florida while court action was still pending. They recently returned to New York.

The Clothiers were arrested Tuesday and sent to Warren County Jail to await a Monday court appearance. It could not be determined if they have a lawyer.

Only 10 percent of people who get CPR from a bystander actually survive. But two young men in Westchester County have now patented a device that could dramatically increase those odds and save lives. John and Chris DiCapua's sitting room in their parents' Westchester County home has had a unique guest lying around for quite a while now: a CPR dummy. What began as an idea from their time as Boy Scouts is now a device that could potentially save lives.
